Jackie Meets With Government Officials

Jackie met today with Mr. Joseph W.P. Wong, Secretary for Commerce, Industry, and Technology (HK SAR) in an attempt to negotiate cooperation with the government in preventing the media from invading the personal privacy of celebrities and other citizens. Jackie and Secretary Wong were joined by a representative from the Hong Kong Performing Artistes Guild (HKPAG), actors Eric Tsang and Terrence Yin, and others. Although the Hong Kong media has its own self-regulatory groups, they are informal and lack clear rules and guidelines. It is the hope that the government, the media, and the artists can come to a mutually acceptable agreement that balances personal privacy with freedom of the press and the rights of the media. New and specific laws governing behavior would need to be written.
