It seems like just yesterday that Jackie was filming Rob-B-Hood in Hong Kong and we got to share in the fun and games that come with working with a baby. Jackie's diaries were filled with stories about Baby Matthew - some of them very funny, some very heartfelt. That was back in the winter of 2005-2006 and Matthew was just a tiny baby. Now he's growing up and is an active two year old!  His mom, Vicky, recently sent us some photos and we'd like to share them with you here.

Matthew
September, 2007

Did you know that Matthew was "discovered" on the Hong Kong MTR (the underground subway). A production assistant from the Rob-B-Hood team saw Matthew and was intrigued by him. He asked Matthew's mother if she'd be interested in bringing Matthew in to meet Jackie and the director Benny Chan. The rest, as they say, is history. Despite a weeks-long parade of babies coming through Jackie's Waterloo Road offices, everyone agreed that none of the babies was as perfect for the part as Matthew!

Here is Matthew's first photo taken by the Rob-B-Hood production team:

When you look at how young he was (about 3 months old), you have to be amazed that Benny and Jackie could see the "something special" that Matthew possessed.

If you read Jackie's diaries during the filming, you will know that Matthew's expression in the above photo became very familiar to the entire crew. However, he wasn't always crying; Matthew was a good-natured baby, but didn't understand the concept of acting! Jackie remembers it this way: 

"When Matthew was supposed to cry for the camera, he laughed. When he was supposed to be asleep, he was awake. There was no way to predict what he would do. We went through miles of film!"

But the two had a very special relationship and certainly it was obvious that Jackie adored Matthew. Here is a photo of Matthew taken about midway through filming:

Matthew with his sister Ganne and his brother Derek. During the filming, Matthew's family became very close with Jackie and others on the film crew.
