To all my friends and fans,
I want to say thank you to everyone who wrote to me to tell me what you thought of the new glasses that I wore when I was in China last weekend. This morning my assistant received an email from my webmaster with all of your comments about my "new look" and after I read them I immediately called Katharine in Hong Kong and dictated this note so she could post it on my website right away.
A few weeks ago, Daniel Wu was wearing a pair of glasses and he gave them to me to try on. When I did, he told me they looked good, so that's where I got the idea to wear these glasses. They're not for my eyesight; they're just for fun or "fashion" or whatever you want to call it. When I went to China I brought them along and thought I'd give them a try.
This morning I got the news from Hong Kong that my webmaster had received more opinions about those glasses than she could remember getting about any other subject in a long time. She sent me many of the comments that my fans had emailed or posted on the Internet and when I read them I was a little surprised, but I felt very happy. I wasn't upset about some of the things that people said. Just the opposite. I think that if my fans didn't care about me, they wouldn't bother to say what they think or to send me messages asking things like "Jackie! What are you doing???!!! Those glasses are awful!!"
For as long as I can remember I have listened to what my fans say and I've taken their advice about so many things. When I used to smoke, I got letters from so many fans begging me to stop. And I stopped. When I first became famous, I would get mail from fans telling me that they didn't like when I was trying to give off a "bad boy" image and so I stopped trying to act tough and started just acting like myself. I have always listened to what my fans say about my movies. Their feelings are very important to me.
So, about the glasses. Here is my promise to you: I will never wear those glasses again! I will put them in my museum and next to them I will put a printout of all my fans' comments about them. Okay?
Thank you, thank you, thank you for caring enough about me to want to teach me good things. You made me very happy today, even if you said the glasses made me look "old" or "ugly" ha ha ha!! I always want to know what my fans are thinking, so please write to my webmaster and she will make sure to tell me what your feelings are about the things that I'm doing.
Love,
Jackie Chan
