A THANK YOU NOTE FROM JACKIE (JANUARY 9, 2008)

Dear Friends,
I don't even know how to thank all my wonderful fans from all over the world for the money you sent me for my charity this Christmas. I can't think of the right words to say how happy it made me to see the photos of all the donations for the Build a School project. When I saw the photos at Christmas I wanted to write a note immediately, but my webmaster said, "Jackie, we have to wait. Every day more donations come in to the office." I told her okay, I'll wait. And wow! In the last few weeks even more cards and letters arrived with money for the Dragon's Heart project. Now I can write my note and say thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Actually, I say thank you, but I'm also thanking you from the children in China who will have a better life because of you. When I think about how much it costs to send a child to school for a year (only about US $9) or how much it costs to buy school supplies, I am so happy that you sent money instead of presents. You know, for so many years I received gifts at Christmas and for my birthday and even though I love the wonderful things that my fans sent me, I always felt a little guilty that I had so many things and there were so many people who had nothing. It seemed so unfair! I remember when I finally convinced my fans in Japan to send money for my charity instead of presents and now I feel like I've done the same for my fans in the rest of the world. It makes me very happy to thank you for not sending me gifts! Ha ha!
When I go to China on my Dragon's Heart trips, I always tell the children that I am bringing the love and care from my fans and friends around the world. I tell them that there are people all over the Earth who cherish and care for them, and when they applaud for me I tell them that it's my friends, fans, and helpers who deserve the thanks. Of course I wish all of you could come with me to China, but I don't think there's a bus big enough. Ha ha! I hope you will read about the trips here on my website and look at the photos and feel like you are with me. Since you can't come along, I think you can say that I have brought back a big thank you from the children of China!
I think that this year we can reach our goal of US $75,000 for the Build a School project. We are getting closer and closer every month. We started this project with only a few dollars and now we have almost US $46,000! I always thought that if everyone in the world could just send me one dollar, I could eliminate poverty and even though I won't be able to do that right now, the Build a School project shows how much can be done if everyone gives what they can. Every single donation is meaningful, from the dime sent from the little boy in America to the thousands donated by the bicycle riders from Switzerland. It's not the amount that matters, it's the love and care behind it. If everyone does their best and gives a little bit, then we can make our dream come true and build another school!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your donations and keep up the good work!
Love you all,
Jackie Chan
