Jackie Attends Special Olympics Opening Ceremony in Shanghai

Jackie was one of several honored guests appearing at the gala opening ceremony of the Special Olympics Summer Games held at Shanghai's Olympic Stadium. Chinese President Hu Jintao welcomed athletes from 160 countries to Shanghai for the spectacular ceremony.

Prior to the ceremony, Jackie expressed his admiration for the courage of the special athletes, adding that games such as the Special Olympics would give hope to the parents of intellectually disabled children. Jackie said, "'The so-called intellectually disabled are all the same as us, and in some areas, they could be even more talented. It is really interesting to communicate with them." Jackie is a long-time supporter of causes that benefit the mentally challenged.

Jackie visited with the athletes before the ceremony and when the festivities began, he led the audience in a rousing cheer of "Ni Hao!" (Chinese for "Hello!)
