Jackie Visits Disaster Zone in Sichuan

On May 15, 2008 Jackie flew to Sichuan Province, China to bring aid and comfort to the thousands of victims of one of the worst earthquakes in recent history. Jackie spoke encouraging words to the people of Chengdu and Deyang City, reassuring them that people all over the world were rushing to help them. He donated food and water and visited the hospital to comfort those who were injured.

Jackie said that when he first found out about the disaster, he tried to think of what he could do to help. He immediately donated US 1.4 million through a joint charity with Albert Yeung. Next, he contacted as many people in the industry and organized to ask them to do whatever they could to help. On the night before he flew to Sichuan, Jackie and several other singing stars recorded a song to encourage survivors and to raise money for the relief effort.

Jackie told the press that he wanted to fly to Sichuan sooner, but had no way to get there. He thanked the Chinese insurance company who made the flight possible and who also donated money and supplies.

His face filled with despair, Jackie pleaded with everyone to help the Chinese people overcome this disaster. He said that love has no boundaries and therefore we should all open our hearts and our wallets to help. He vowed to continue supporting the relief effort through donations from his Dragon’s Heart Foundation and promised to help rebuild the schools that were lost in the earthquake.

Local officials thanked Jackie, pointing out that he was the first person besides rescue workers and press to come to lend support and comfort to the victims.

There has been a swift and generous response from governments, private companies, and individuals worldwide. Charitable associations have been flooded with much-needed money and supplies.

The Red Cross, of which Jackie is a Celebrity Cabinet member, is accepting donations at their website.

Jackie is also collecting donations through his online charity donations page (choose China Earthquake Fund from the drop down menu).

Here is video of Jackie recording the song.
