Jackie Chan Science Center at Australian University

On the morning of March 9, Jackie attended the opening ceremony of Australian National University’s Jackie Chan Science Center at the John Curtin School of Medical Research. Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd came to show his support and appreciation of all that Jackie has done for the school. At a short press conference, Prime Minister Rudd talked about how moved he was by Jackie’s philanthropy and he joked that he and Jackie had a lot in common since they had both worked at construction sites in Australia when they were young men. Jackie addressed the crowd only briefly, saying that his father always taught him to “talk less and do more.” Afterwards, Jackie toured the new facility and met several of the researchers.

Jackie was in Canberra to attend the funeral of his father, Charlie Chan, who died last week at the age of 93.
