PHOTO ESSAY: JACKIE IN CHENGDU FOR 512 EARTHQUAKE EVENT (PART TWO)

On May 30-31, Jackie was in Chengdu, China at the earthquake disaster area visiting with the victims, bringing money and supplies, and lending moral support. We posted a photo essay from his trip, but Jackie wanted you to see even more photos and have some additional information. Therefore, we bring you part two of the photo essay:

A few more photos from the show on May 30:

The Long Yun troupe rehearsing for the show.

At rehearsals.

During the show it was difficult for the performers to control their emotions.

During the show, which was broadcast throughout China, viewers were able to send their thoughts and greetings, which were then displayed on a crawl across the bottom of the television screen. Many viewers wrote to say how touched they were by the tears of the performers.

Visiting the Disaster Area

For miles along the local roads, these tents are set up as housing for the residents.

These temporary structures stretch as far as the eye can see.

Jackie visited a school which had been set up in a tent. All of these children lost their homes and many lost their parents. Some of them still didn't know whether their relatives were dead or alive.

The volunteer teachers wrote the words to a song on the board so that Jackie could sing along with the children. Jackie wanted you to know what the song was about, so we translated the lyrics for you:

I hold your face softly and wipe away your tears

A warm heart for you forever

Tell me you’ll never be alone

I stare deeply into your eyes

No words are needed

I hold your hands tightly

The warmth is still there

We’re happy together and we endure together

We have the same hope

We face the wind and rain (difficulties) together

And we walk together

We treasure our love

No matter if we know each other

No matter if we are near or far away I pray for you and pray that you’ll have peace and happiness

As well as bringing water and other necessities, Jackie brought along something fun for the students - JC film rulers.

Singing for Uncle Jackie:

All of these men and women are volunteers who have come to the area to teach the children.

Drinks for the students.

The banners on these trucks describe an "Iron Army" mobile hospital going into the affected area, linking heart with heart.

Jackie's visit to the army personnel was very helpful in relieving some of the soldiers' stress. These soldiers - and thousands more - have experienced a severe psychological trauma and will need counseling.

More photos from the visit to the army camp:

It is Jackie's thinking that if he shares all the photos and stories of his own experiences helping the victims, it will keep the interest in the event alive in media and in the minds of people who might want to help.
